Ампалекс разработан Cortex Pharmaceuticals уже в 1994 году (за 10 лет до смерти Рейгана!), но с его внедрением, судя по газетной заметке 2004 года, какие-то очень большие сложности, хотя финансирование есть даже от DARPA:
"Cortex Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with the University of California and
Wake Forest University is seeking to gain protection on the use of AMPA
receptor potentiator compounds for the treatment of cognitive impairment due to
sleep deprivation with an application published this week. Cortex has an exclusive
license for compounds with this activity from the University of California, these
are commercially known as AMPAKINES®, with the lead product
from this project appearing to be AMPALEX. Dr Deadwyler from Wake
Forest has received extended funding from the Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency (DARPA) for research in to these compounds in the prevention of
sleep deprivation, indicating an interest for their use in the military. Organon has
a license from Cortex to develop these products for the indications schizophrenia
and depression. Additionally Cortex is collaborating with Servier for the development of AMPAKINES® in the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders."

Вы так не любите пирацетам видимо потому, что он главный антагонист нейролептиков, перворекомендуемый на западе от нейролептического синдрома.
А ведь в инструкции к нему, утвержденной Минздравом, написано что его можно применять и детям дошкольного возраста.
